Community Garden Project

Finbar’s Community Garden Project has been operating for over 10years and is still going strong. Kath Jones, Jude Sullivan with their garden volunteers give their time to ensure the project continues to flourish and provide an essential community service.

The collaborative approach, utilising Kath’s Permaculture Organic gardening knowledge & skills, Jude’s organisational skills and a commitment from Finbar with the help from volunteers will ensure that the objective towards sustainability continues.

Community Garden Plots

Like to grow your own vegetables or flowers? Why not make use of our Community Garden Plots.

Finbar has several garden plots available for community use. Some garden tools provided, and you will have access to the garden shed. Some access restrictions on the weekend due to party hire but you just check in with the office and we will advise you when access is not available. Evening access is ok. Key provided for entry gate and garden shed.

For more info contact the office.

Food is Free Project

The idea of sharing the seasonal organic produce from Finbar’s gardens is offered to the community.

This has evolved into the sharing of excess harvest from gardens around Richmond & Finbar’s Community Garden. Community health & wellbeing is improved through this initiative.

Free ‘Ready to Use’ Compost

Thanks to overwhelming support from the community using our Compost Exchange Program we are now able to provide FREE buckets of 'Ready to Use' compost for your home gardens.  Just give us a call or email us and request your compost.  You can order up to 3 buckets at a time.  Weekend collections are available as we will simply get it in the buckets on Fridays, put you name on it and leave it on our front veranda for you to collect over the weekend.  We would appreciate all buckets being returned to our compost station when empty.

We are always looking for extra buckets with secure lids so if you have spares just leave them on our veranda and we thank you in advance.

Compost Bucket/Empty yourself Exchange

Community members are encouraged to continue the ‘do-it-yourself’ system in the ‘Composting Hub’.

  • Drop off a full bucket of kitchen scraps

  • Grab an empty bucket

  • Swap & Go

  • Return your bucket full

  • Collect a new bucket

Buckets are available for collection/drop off 7 days a week at any time of the day. Lids must be firmly secured.

No plastic bags or compostable bags accepted

House Membership would be appreciated to help keep the compost station open.

Seed Share

We encourage seed sharing to protect seed diversity without chemicals or genetic modification.
